How to Use Home Energy On-Line

The Tables of Contents, 1993-1999 Issues first lists all of the issues for each year in chronological order by date of publication. Each issue name is then linked to a complete table of contents including a brief summary of most articles. You can get to a particular issue's table of contents by selecting it from the list. To go directly to an article, just select the title.

Home Energy articles often refer to other articles that have appeared in the magazine. If the reference is underlined or highlighted, you can go directly to that article by selecting it. (Only selected issues before 1993 are available.) You can also move directly to any other references that are underlined or highlighted, such as figures and photos. Please note that pictures may take a while to download, due to their size. You may want to turn off automatic image loading in your browser.

The Online Home Energy Index is an alphabetical listing--by author, subject, and title--of just about everything that has appeared in the magazine from 1993 through 1999. It has been conveniently linked by each letter of the alphabet. To look up everything we've had to say on the topic of heat loss, for example, select "H", then scroll to the chosen subject. Under "heat loss" you will find a list of articles that you can access directly.

You can also do a search of the Index by keyword. If you want to look up "heat loss", but are also interested in any items relating to "heat" or "loss" on their own, you can choose the option to "Find entries containing at least one keyword". On the other hand, if you are only interested in "heat loss", choose the option to "Find entries containing ALL keywords". This will narrow your search to articles in which the two words appeared together.

The Topical List of Feature Articles is an alphabetical list of Home Energy feature article topics. Each topic is followed by a list of related articles, allowing you to quickly find groups of stories on the same topic. Selecting any title will take you directly to that article. To quickly locate a topic, you can view a list of all topics in the 1993-99 Feature Article Topics list. Selecting any topic in this list will take you to the list of feature articles on that topic.
