Guide to Training Programs
for
Home Performance Professionals

Most of the programs covered here focus on the "whole-house" approach. For those who wish to specialize in a particular area, many other sources of training are available. For example, heating and air conditioning is a well established program in many community colleges, and training is also offered by equipment manufacturers, and by union apprentice programs. Where a license is required by a legal authority, there is almost always an available training program to help workers to earn the license.

This is a growing list, updated periodically, and we encourage readers to contact us with more information. We are particularly interested in hearing about training courses offered at universities and colleges, as we currently have very limited informatin on classes offered through these venues. To notify us of other training programs that concentrate on whole-house comfort, write to Colleen Turrell, Managing Editor, Home Energy magazine, 2124 Kittredge St. No. 95, Berkeley, CA 94704. Tel:(510)524-5405; E-mail: cmturrell@ lbl.gov. Or use the "questionnaire and email reply form" included in this Training Guide. We may list these programs here on our website or in a future issue. Although the trainers listed here are organized alphabetically by region, they may also have expertise about other regions. In fact, many of them train in other climates on a regular basis.

In this version of the training guide, we have given special prominence to programs that offer certificates to the attendees (they are marked with a bullet and indentation). For a discussion of the pros and cons of certificates, read the Article page.
