Walter D. Thomas is a native of New Hampshire and attended Cornell University for a degree in Materials Science and Engineering. He spent 20 years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force as air mobility pilot and planning officer, retiring in 2008 as a lieutenant colonel. Thomas finished work on a Ph.D. in energy engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, in February 2013.
