NESEA Hudson Valley Group May 2016 Monastery Retrofit Workshop
NESEA Hudson Valley Group welcomes you to our spring 2016 Monastery Workshop Series. The main purpose of this project is to produce a deep, detailed Home Performance Energy Audit in order to establish a work scope for energy measures that includes health and safety as well. We will evaluate all possible energy saving targets, and prepare the beautiful Holy Cross Monastery for appropriate sustainable energy solutions.
NESEA Hudson Valley Group is a chapter of NESEA, Northeast Sustainable Energy Association, a not for profit organization whose main goals is to educate and promote green sustainable solutions. Our chapter follows those same goals, and we created this workshop as a way to make an in-depth energy audit possible for this community. Your participation and support is for an amazing cause, one that would make a great difference in our path to a better world by helping spread the word to our community that there are better ways to make energy, and even better ways to preserve it.
That's two days of training - May 23 and 24, in West Park, New York (just north of Poughkeepsie). The cost is $150 dollars per day - or $270 for both days if you register by May 13.
This hands-on training event will allow you to acquire the skills to test and evaluate a set of large connected spaces using state-of-the-art high-tech diagnostic equipment.
- The Monastery Building, built in 1964 with a total floor area of 25,335sf
- The Guest House, built in 1902 with a total floor area of 21,520sf.
- The Middle House, built in 1920 with a total floor area of 10,655sf.
- The Refectory, built recently, with a total floor area of 5,000sf
Workshop 1: Multiple Fan Workshop (both days = 8 BPI continuing ed units)
- Setup and perform multiple-fan tests
- Test to a specific standard RESNET, USACE, ASTM & LEED
- Calculate number of fans needed
- Determine best fan placement
- Neutralize or isolate areas not being tested
- Test the air barrier under normal operating conditions
- Perform compartmentalization tests, like area-to-area or floor-to-floor tests
- And Running 2 - 6+ fans simultaneously
These sessions include the real work of manual testing and automated software testing.
You will be part of the crew to identify and solve real life testing issues.
Workshop 2: Air Source Heat Pumps versus Ground Source Heat Pumps
Sessions objectives include but are not limited to:
- Refrigeration Principals
- Refrigeration Cycles
- Heating mode operation
- GSHP operation
- ASHP operation
- GSHP and ASHP side by side
- General definitions
- Geothermal loops
- A true apples-to-apples comparison between Air and Ground Source Heat Pumps
Workshop 3: How Infrared Cameras Can Reveal Hidden Problems and Save You Money
We will work on a real-life energy audit experience with the help of multiple blower doors depressurizing the buildings, gathering data, and helping develop solutions for an energy retrofit. You will get hands-on experience on how thermography has been implemented in standard operating procedures for many successful Home Performance organizations across the country.
