It is virtually impossible to achieve the standards of the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) by accident, let alone those of the 2012 IECC, which is even more stringent. The 2012 IECC reaches into almost every part of the home, including how it is framed. The building code allows for a wide variety of structural framing approaches, but some framing approaches and practices play a role in a home’s total energy performance.
