Got this in my email and thought I'd share. Very good article by Joe Laquatra on the current serious lead hazards that may shock you into action and other great stuff—including from Home Energy's Alan Meier, from the folks at Cornell University:
Click here for a PDF file that contains the Spring 2013 issue of Housing & Home Environment News (HHE-News), the Extension Newsletter for the Department of Design & Environmental Analysis (DEA) at the College of Human Ecology, Cornell University. We are lucky to have articles from 3 guest authors for this issue, so there are a total of 5 articles:
Joe Laquatra, Professor at DEA, has a very informative article about lead in household products. This is a must read for anyone working with parents of small children.
We have an article provided by the National Fenestration Rating Council on how that organizations informational label helps consumers determine which windows will be most energy efficient when they are purchasing new or replacement windows.
Saikat Paul, a visiting Fulbright Scholar from the Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpu, India, has provided an article about the need to strengthen our efforts in making our buildings and communities more energy efficient and sustainable as a method toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Alan Meier, the Senior Executive Editor with the national print publication, Home Energy has allowed us to re-print an article he has authored that reveals data showing energy consumption for heating and cooling U.S. Home no longer accounts for the majority of energy consumed by U.S. homes. Meier notes that this is a victory and a challenge, the challenge being to re-double our efforts in reducing electricity consumption by home appliances and plug loads.
And DEA Extension Associate Mark Pierce has an article about how to calculate the energy intensity of your own home.
As always, Extension/Community Educators are encouraged to re-publish any of these articles in Extension Association News Letters or make them available to local print media outlets (please give full credit to article authors when doing that). If you want copies of any of these article in MS Word format, contact Mark Pierce (email@example.com).
We hope you find this issue of HHE News informative and interesting.
