New England Contractors Honored With "Cool Smart" Awards

The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) honored eight New England contractors this fall at the organization's annual golf tournament in Stow, Mass., sponsored by the Massachusetts/Rhode Island COOL SMART program.  The winners received awards for excellence in the quality installation of energy efficient air conditioning systems in 2012.  The contractors, who specialize in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), were honored for their contributions to the COOL SMART program.  The tournament drew more than 100 participants throughout the region.    

COOL SMART is a high efficiency air conditioning rebate program for residential customers of National Grid, NSTAR Electric, Unitil, Western Massachusetts Electric Company and Cape Light Compact. These organizations sponsor the awards and the tournament to recognize contractors in Massachusetts and Rhode Island for outstanding service and an ongoing commitment to energy efficiency.  The COOL SMART program was launched in 2004 and promotes the purchase and verified quality installation of ENERGY STAR-qualified central air conditioning systems.  The awards are based on leadership, quality installations, and active program participation.

First place award recipients from Massachusetts are as follows:

• Central Cooling & Heating - Woburn (three awards)
• Central MA Mechanical - Shrewsbury
• Climate Concepts - Taunton
• Dustbusters - Springfield
• Thai Sheet Metal - Kingston

Top Rhode Island winners are:

• CARJON Air Conditioning and Heating - Smithfield
• National Refrigeration - Warwick
• Providence Mechanical - Smithfield

NSTAR Residential Program Manager Dick Moran has attended the ACCA tournament for years. He said, "We have more contractors participating in COOL SMART every year, so the competition is tough. The winners represent the best trade pros in the region and they are an inspiration to others. We appreciate their continued dedication to installing the highest quality energy efficient heating and cooling systems." 

National Grid Residential Program Manager Rebecca Rundle attended the tournament for the first time this year.  She said, "I am impressed by the skill and the commitment these contractors show to the quality installation of equipment. Congratulations to all of the winners. By installing a/c systems that use much less energy, they are doing a great service for the environment and helping their customers save money on energy bills."
