Home Performance Program Design - Engaging Contractors
If you want to save a lot of energy in a lot of homes, you need a lot of qualified contractors willing to help.

I’m frequently asked to speak at events or attend meetings to provide perspective on how home performance works as a business for contractors, and how programs might attract contractors to participate. In fact, I’ll be moderating a session on this at the Better Buildings Residential Energy Efficiency Solutions conference in a couple of weeks. It’s a great topic—and a conversation we need to be having a lot more frequently, and a lot more deeply.

I’ve had the privilege to work on this issue first on the program side and then as a contractor. To capture some of the great lessons learned over the past decade about moving contractors to home performance and to move the conversation along further, I’ve distilled a summary of the important elements needed to succeed. This is based on participation in and observation of what has worked and what hasn’t worked.

I hope that you’ll take a moment to review a short presentation I’ve prepared on the recipe for contractor engagement and use it to help further the conversation with your colleagues and with contractors who are participating—or whom you would like to participate—in home performance programs.
