Liz Robinson Stepping Down After 33 Years at the Energy Coordinating Agency
After 33 years at the helm, Liz Robinson, Executive Director of the Energy Coordinating Agency (ECA), is stepping down. Since the early 80s, Liz has championed energy efficiency and social responsibility in Philadelphia, earning a national reputation for excellence in creating and delivering solutions to the energy problems of low income Philadelphians. She founded ECA with the goal of furthering social justice and economic development by saving energy and solving related housing problems. By making the city’s homes and commercial buildings more energy efficient, and training men and women for the clean energy industry, she has helped create a powerful cycle of positive change.
Over three decades, Liz deftly navigated the agency through changing political climates, always with a clear focus on ECA’s mission of solving energy problems for low income people and increasing sustainability in disadvantaged communities. ECA forged a citywide network of Neighborhood Energy Centers to provide “one-stop shopping” for energy services, including weatherization, heating system repair and replacement, home repair, utility bill payment assistance, budget counseling, and energy education in neighborhoods throughout the city. Under Liz’s leadership, ECA trained over 4,600 new energy professionals in its LEED Gold Knight Training Center, the region’s only technical training center focused on preparing adults for work in the clean energy industry. Liz is also a founding partner of the Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance, the statewide trade association for energy efficiency and demand reduction.
For more than 30 years, ECA has remained focused on social and environmental justice, economic development, and improving the quality of life in low-income neighborhoods. ECA has created thousands of jobs, weatherized almost 50,000 homes, helped stabilize neighborhoods, and avoided more than 175,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
Steve Luxton, Director of Conservation will serve as Interim Executive Director, effective August 1, 2017, with Liz serving as an advisor to ECA through the transition.
